What is Compassion Wise?
Compassion Wise is an Ottawa-based counselling / therapy / education started by Debra Rimmer, a registered clinical social worker with 20 years of experience in Canada and the US. Debra’s training includes certification as a Compassion Fatigue Educator.
What services do you provide?
Compassion Wise provides support in the form of counselling, therapy and education for a variety of situations and issues including grief/loss, pet loss, supporting your senior parent in Ottawa, adjustment and comfort for immigrants, adoption, and developmental challenges. We also are dedicated to working with stress management, burnout, compassion fatigue and self-care.
Do you provide support for stress and burnout?
Yes. Life is not always easy and presents us with challenges that may be difficult to navigate.Learning different techniques for relaxation and stress reduction is part of our work together.

Yes. As a Registered Social Worker in Ontario, I am bound by the Professional Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. www.ocswssw.org/en/downloadcodeofethics.htm As a Certified Compassion Fatigue Educator by the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology I must also follow their Standards of Practice.
Do you provide group seminars, train-the-trainer and team coaching?

Do you offer services via telephone / Skype or online?

Where is your office located?
We are located in the Hintonburg area - off Parkdale and Wellington. The location is accessible by car or bus. Free street parking is available - please check the signs.
What are your office hours?
We offer daytime and evening hours to fit with your availability.
Are you mobile / willing to travel to my workplace / location?
Yes, this is a possibility. We will have to discuss privacy and confidentiality considerations in advance of the visit.
Is there a waiting list?
No. We typically can accommodate your request within a week’s notice. However, if your case is an emergency, we can accommodate that too.
How can I pay for services?
At this time we accept payment in advance by major credit card (i.e., Visa, MasterCard, PayPal). Purchase Link is here: http://compassionwise.weebly.com/purchase.html Personal cheques may also be accepted. Please confirm your desired method of payment, when making an appointment.
Will my insurance company pay for these services?
Yes, in some cases. You are responsible for paying upfront for these services, and then submitting a request for reimbursement from your insurance provider. We encourage our clients to check with their insurance companies. Many insurance companies will provide reimbursement for counselling provided by a registered social worker. (i.e., Debra Rimmer, MSSW, RSW)
Do you have gift certificates?
Yes. You can purchase them to honour a hardworking caregiver, veterinary professional, or someone who you think / feel could benefit from our services.
What is your cancellation policy?
Since the scheduling of an appointment involves the reservation of time specifically for you, a minimum of 48 hours notice (2 days) is required for rescheduling, postponing or cancelling an appointment. The full fee will be charged for sessions missed, without the abovementioned notice. (Please note that insurance companies do not typically reimburse for missed sessions.) The sole exception to our cancellation policy is a sudden event, serious accident or situation and/or a contagious illness. If you need to cancel, please do so with 48 hours' notice by calling (613) 700-0104 to leave a message.
