Biology of Stress (quick)
- Body not equipped to deal with ongoing, or chronic stress / or hyper-vigilant for risk / danger
- When danger looms (fight / flight), hypothalamus sends message to adrenal glands (adrenaline)
- Speeds up heart rate; Increased metabolism; Increased blood pressure; Gets the body ready for perceived attack – to respond to stressor
- 2nd Hormone – Cortisol (steroid) is released – good for survival, enhanced memory, boosts immune system – for a little while
